Introducing our SHROOMIE Starter Mending Kit.

This starter set contains our iconic SHROOMIE darning mushroom, a handful of mill waste darning yarns or organic cotton mending threads (the choice is yours!), a mini set of sewing needles and some chalk for marking out the shape of your darn and stitch lines. All the bits you need to start visibly mending knitwear pieces or cotton garments like shirts and trousers in need of a little TLC

Each kit is beautifully packed inside one of our signature gift boxes with super soft waste wool filling from our local spinning mill to carefully cushion all your tools.

Our vintage style kraft boxes feature beautiful, galvanised wire 'stitch' details on the side of the box and a debossed stamped image of our iconic 'MoM' logo on the lid - ideal for those who wish to give this as a gift to someone special!

If you’ve never picked up a needle & thread before or would like to learn more about creative textile repair, then our ‘How To: Darn Your Clothes’ online tutorial series will walk you through the process from threading your needle to tidying your loose tails and everything in-between to repair holes or worn-out spots with classic darning.

Our SHROOMIE 2 in 1 Darner

A freestanding darning mushroom with a removable stem, hand-turned on a lathe by Dan in our Cornish workshop using FSC certified Beech timber.

Simply turn the cap anticlockwise to remove the stem and convert your SHROOMIE into a darning disk to tackle those tight spots like sleeves, cuffs and narrow trouser legs.

Use this tool to darn, patch or mend holes, tears, worn-out spots or stains on any treasured garments in need of a little TLC.

A darning tool like our SHROOMIE mushroom is useful for holding the fabric in place whilst you make your mend – it holds the fabric slightly taut keeping an even tension as you stitch, and means you can put down your work whenever you need to with none of the repositioning faff when you’re ready to begin again. You also eliminate the chance of stitching two layers of fabric together and creating any loose thread tangles on the reverse side of your mend.

Key Points:

Repair holes, tears, threadbare areas and stains up to 8cm/3" wide.

Flat base for standing storage and hands-free mending - rest it on the table and give your arms a break whilst you stitch.

Ergonomic handle for comfort and ease of use.

Curved cap which is particularly useful for darning heels, crotches, armpits, elbows and knees, where the fabric of the garment is shaped.

A metal screw fitting ensures the cap can be twisted on or off easily and securely for years to come.

Grooved cap fitted with one of our signature stainless steel springs for holding fabric securely in place until your mend is complete.

Smooth polished surface, rounded edges and natural unwaxed finish.

Handcrafted using FSC certified solid beech hardwood timber. Each one has it's own individual character and and therefore your SHROOMIE may differ slightly from the one shown.
