A classic style darning egg handcrafted from scratch by us in our Cornish workshop.

Use this tool to darn holes or worn-out spots on your favourite socks and tights as well as threadbare elbows and knees too!

A darning egg like our MEGG is useful for holding the fabric in place whilst you make your mend – it holds the fabric slightly taut keeping an even tension as you stitch and means you can put down your work whenever you need to with none of the repositioning faff when you’re ready to begin again.

The rounded surface helps you preserve the original shape of the garment and the smaller size ensures you can fix a hole or well-worn areas without stretching the fabric out too much.

Key Points:

Fix small holes and threadbare spots up to 3cm/1.2” wide.

Ergonomic shape for comfort and ease of use.

Smooth organic surface, rounded edges and natural unwaxed finish.

Curved surface useful for darning toes and heels where the fabric of the garment is shaped.

Supplied with a zero waste elastic band created using fabric offcuts from a U.K swimwear brand.

Timber

Handcrafted using locally sourced windfallen hardwood timber.

Our very first collection of MEGGs have been created from Cornish Beech wood sourced from the exotic gardens of the Caerhays Castle estate, set on the south coast of Cornwall near St Austell.

After falling in a storm this tree was saved by a Cornish sawmill who carefully kiln-dried the timber before arriving at our workshop.

To Use

To darn a hole simply pop the egg inside the sock and wrap the elastic band around the base of the egg to hold the fabric in place. To remove the egg from the sock, undo the elastic loop to release the fabric.

Measurements:

Overall Height - 7cm/ 2.75"

Width – 4.4cm/ 1.7"
