A modern style darning disk tool hand-turned on a lathe by Dan in our Cornish workshop using locally-sourced windfallen timber.
 
Use it to darn, patch or mend holes, tears, worn-out spots or stains on any treasured garments in need of a little TLC.
 
The Macaron disk works just like a classic darning mushroom but the absence of the stem means you can repair hard-to-reach areas such as: pockets, sleeves, socks, cuffs, narrow trouser legs and kids clothes, without stretching the fabric out too much.
 
Using a darning tool like our Mending Macaron is useful for holding the fabric in place whilst you make your mend – it holds the fabric slightly taut keeping an even tension as you stitch, and means you can put down your work whenever you need to with none of the repositioning faff when you’re ready to begin again.  You also eliminate the chance of stitching two layers of fabric together and creating any loose thread tangles on the reverse side of your mend.

Rounded groove which perfectly accommodates one of our signature stainless steel springs - this holds the fabric securely in place until your mend is complete. 
 
'Bite' style notch makes it much easier to remove the spring when located in the groove.

Minimal domed top which is particularly useful when repairing areas where the fabric of the garment is relatively flat when worn e.g. sole of the sock, trouser leg, or front of a shirt.
 
Timber
Handcrafted using local windfallen hardwood timber.
 
Our most recent batch have been created using Lacewood timber sourced from a historic walled garden, set on the south coast of Devon near Sidmouth. After falling in a storm in 2020, this tree was saved by a Cornish sawmill who carefully kiln-dried the timber before arriving at our workshop.

To Use
Simply place the fabric over the top and secure everything in place by pushing the metal spring into the groove on the side of the disk.
 
To remove the garment from the Mending Macaron pull the spring away from the groove to release the fabric.
 
SHROOMiNi vs. MENDING MACARON – which one is for you?
The mini MENDING MACARON and SHROOMiNi darning mushroom are a similar size, but the absence of a stem on the MACARON makes it easier to stitch with both hands free (if that's something that suits you) and access hard-to-reach spots like pockets.
 
The MEGA MENDING MACARON is much bigger than our SHROOMiNi, so you can repair larger holes, rips and well-worn spots.
 
If you can it's probably best to invest in all three tools, as the SHROOMiNi has a curved cap which is particularly useful when repairing spots where the fabric of the garment is shaped.
